3D printing is a cheaper, faster way to produce once-off clothing items compared to traditional garment-making methods. 3D printing also uses less material so results in less material waste as opposed to textiles which generate millions of tons of waste every year.
The biggest advantage of using 3D printing for fashion is perhaps speed. Rather than taking weeks to go from a concept to the finished article, 3D printing can produce an item in days if not hours. Source
As 3D printing is yet to become scalable, it is mainly used for high fashion and prototyping. Some of the major brands that are creating or have created clothing with 3D printing include Nike, Adidas and Victoria’s Secret.
