Do 3D Printers Generally Come With Filament? (Ender 3 & 5 Examples)

Nearly all printers are ready to print as soon as they’re unpacked. All that is needed is raw material to print with.

Filament is the raw material used in certain types of 3D printers. Some 3D printer manufacturers ship their printers with filament which makes it possible to immediately start printing.

With Most printers do not come with filament included, and if they do, it is usually a tiny small roll (around 200 grams of PLA filament). Thus, one has to buy their first roll of filament with a purchase of a new 3d Printer.

In this article, we take a look at which type of printers use filament as opposed to other materials. We also take a look at one of the most popular 3D printers for beginners.

On a side note! If you’re looking for a reliable and high-quality 3D printer, we highly recommend the Official Creality Ender 3 V2 Upgraded 3D Printer (Amazon Link).

This printer is an upgraded version of the popular Ender 3 model, with a range of new features and improvements that make it even easier and more convenient to use.

The Ender 3 V2 is an excellent choice for beginners, kids, and experienced users.

Does Ender 5 Pro Come With Filament?

The Creality Ender 5 Pro is an open-frame DIY build kit which takes between one and several hours to assemble. It supports multiple filament types including PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU, and wood composite filaments. To get users started, the Ender 5 Pro comes with 200 grams of PLA filament.

One of the standout features of the Ender 5 Pro is its silent printing. The printer is equipped with a V1.15 Silent Mainboard with TMC2208 drivers that allows for quieter printing than its predecessor, the Ender 5. Other important upgrades include:

  1. Thermal runaway protection
  2. More durable metal extruder
  3. Capricorn Bowden PTFE tubing. Source

What Kind Of Filament Does The Ender 3 V2 Come With?

The Ender 3 V2 comes with PLA filament. Most manufacturers ship their 3D printers with PLA filament since it is an easier material to work with owing to its low extrusion temperature. This is especially important for beginners. It is also less toxic as it is a plant based material.

The Ender 3 V2 is an upgrade or second generation model of the Ender 3. It is to the Ender 3 what the Ender 5 Pro is to the Ender 5. There is only a year separating the Ender 3 V2 and 5 Pro with the latter coming out in 2019, while the former was released in 2020.

The main difference between the two is how they print. The Ender 5 prints on a reverse Cartesian XY plane while the print bed moves up or down on the Z axis. The Ender 3 V2 uses a standard Cartesian printing along the X and Z axes. Source

How Much Filament Comes With An Ender 3?

The Ender 3 is built to support printing with PLA, ABS, PVA, TPU and PETG. It comes with a sample of 200 grams of PLA. Other materials like nylon, and PEEK require extrusion temperatures that are too high for the printer to handle. Tougher materials like carbon composites are too hard for the brass nozzle.

The Ender 3 is a great starter printer suited for beginners and small business prototyping. It is easy to put together and can be assembled within an hour. Given its price point (retailing at less than $200), the Ender 3 produces above-par prints.
