Weed wacker line has limited application as a material in a 3D printer. It can be used to print with but it does not produce the same quality as the specialized 3d printing filament. It also carries a potential hazard in that it produces toxic fumes when heated, so the recommendation is to avoid using weed eater lines in 3d printers.

Weed wacker line looks a lot like filament. It is made from Nylon so you can use it as filament. Here are some of the steps you should follow if you decide to try printing with a weed wacker:

  1. Make sure to dry it out first as Nylon is highly moisture absorbent. Using it without drying first produces stringy prints.
  2. Make sure to print in a well ventilated area and avoid inhaling the fumes produced. Source
  3. Use the printer settings that you would use to print with Nylon. Consider using a slightly higher temperature and shorter layers.
  4. Use a smooth line. Avoid any textured lines. 
  5. Use a line of 1.65mm (in place of 1.75mm filament) and 2.7mm (in place of 2.85mm filament).
  6. Use a glue stick or some other type of bed adhesive.

What Type Of Plastic Is Weed Eater String?

Weed eater string is made from Nylon which is a blend of different types of polyamide. Polyamide consists of naturally and artificially made monomers. Natural monomers include wool and silk, while artificial monomers are made through solid-phase synthesis or step-growth polymerization.
